Hard AntlerAt BONUS we use four major categories to determine propriety of the Elk antler that we accept as BONUS Chews: Grade A- Hard Brown, Grade B- Hard White, Grade C- Cracked White, Grade D- Chalky. These categories have largely been adopted using the standards of antlers used for food in Asian cultures. Size and thickness of the Elk antler also factor into the final grading; as a small antler tends to be harder and drier. All BONUS Chews are Elk antler Grade A, which means they have limited expose to elements such as the sun and wind. You will never receive a chalky, sun-baked, wind blown, hairline cracked antler from us!
Unfortunately many big box stores and online retailers source inexpensive antlers, often through third party sellers, which leaves them with weathered, white, and cracked antlers that are unsafe and valueless. Be aware of tactics such as dying and tumbling which gives the look and feel of quality antlers while in reality they are inferior.
